NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a missing kayaker from a North Platte sand pit pond.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says the body of 20-year-old Samson Charles was found Thursday and then removed from the water around 6 p.m.

Rescuers were first called to the area around 7:20 p.m. Monday after two of three kayakers on the North Platte River were shunted by the current into the sand pit and overturned. One kayaker reached safety; Charles did not.
