PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say five people have been arrested and nearly 250 pounds of marijuana seized after a chase west of Phoenix.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say a trooper tried to stop a vehicle for a speed violation Wednesday when the driver failed to stop and fled.

The trooper pursued the vehicle along State Route 85 up to Interstate 10, when the driver headed west toward Phoenix.

After another DPS vehicle started following the vehicle, road spikes were deployed and the vehicle ran over the spikes.

The car exited I-10 at Estrella Parkway and stopped and the car’s occupants jumped out and ran.

The five people taken into custody were turned over to immigration authorities.

Troopers say they found 247 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle.
