BANNING, Calif. (AP) - A Riverside County jury convicted a man of second-degree murder for the crash death of a Cathedral City police officer who was pursuing him at high speed five years ago.

The Press-Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/29Izfev ) 40-year-old Durjan Germaine Gray of Palm Springs also was convicted Thursday of driving under the influence and other crimes stemming from the March 18, 2011, incident.

Gray was driving a stolen car and had been pursued for 11 miles by 29-year-old Officer Jermaine Gibson when Gibson lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a palm tree.

Gray crashed a quarter-mile farther on. Authorities say he was under the influence of methamphetamine.

District attorney spokesman John Hall says Gray faces 30 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 9.
