BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Baton Rouge police say one man died and another is hospitalized after lightning struck a tree the two were standing under during a rainstorm.

East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Beau Clark tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/29TUVba) his office plans to do an autopsy Friday.

Clark says the man, who has not been identified, died Thursday afternoon shortly after the strike.

Sgt. Don A. Coppola Jr. says the two had been working on a roof, when they sought cover under a tree after a heavy downpour started and lightning suddenly struck nearby.

Coppola said he’s not sure of the extent of the second man’s injuries, but he’s expected to survive.
