WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Police say an 81-year-old woman was killed when she was knocked down and pinned beneath a dump truck in Worcester (WUS’-tur).

It happened around 8:45 a.m. Thursday as the woman was walking in the neighborhood.

The truck had been there to pave a driveway. Police say the woman was hit when the driver moved it forward to detach a trailer carrying industrial equipment.

Arriving officers found the woman trapped under the left front tire. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst says the driver was hospitalized due to emotional distress.

Authorities haven’t identified the victim. The incident remains under investigation.
