BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) - A nonprofit affordable housing group says the median cost for a two-bedroom apartment in New Hampshire is nearly 15 percent higher than it was five years ago.

The rental cost survey released Thursday by the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority says the median cost of renting a two-bedroom apartment is more than $1,200 a month, including utilities.

The survey says renters would need to make more than $46,000 a year to live in such an apartment. That’s nearly 125 percent of the state’s median income.

The median purchase price of newly built homes increased about $100,000 over the past five years to $344,000, and from $200,000 to $212,000 for existing homes.

The rate of housing foreclosures this year is at its lowest rate since 2006, just before the mortgage crisis.
