KREBS, Okla. (AP) - Authorities have arrested an Oklahoma man on a murder complaint after his 2-year-old daughter was found unresponsive in a park pond in Krebs.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says a Krebs police officer acting on a tip went to Choctaw Park early Friday where he heard screams and followed the sound to the pond where he found the girl. The child was later pronounced dead at a McAlester hospital.

The OSBI says the father attacked the Krebs officer and tried to drown him in the pond before a Pittsburg County deputy intervened and helped arrest the man.

The father is being held in the Pittsburg County jail on a first-degree murder complaint. According to court records, he has not yet been formally charged.
