CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) - A 27-year-old man is accused of stealing a car and dragging a police officer before being shot by another officer.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office on Monday announced charges against Michael Clark in connection with the events in Chelmsford over the weekend.

Prosecutors say it began as a traffic stop on Saturday night in Tyngsborough. They say the suspect, later identified as Clark, fled in the car, and an officer followed him to Chelmsford.

A Chelmsford officer then tried to stop the car. Prosecutors say Clark pulled into a parking lot, but backed out when the Chelmsford officer approached, catching him on the car door and dragging him. The Tyngsborough officer then shot Clark twice.

Clark is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at a Boston hospital, provided his medical condition allows it.
