LAS VEGAS (AP) - Trial has been reset for next year for a 23-year-old former Las Vegas police Explorer accused of child sexual assault, kidnapping and lewdness involving an underage schoolgirl.

Joshua Honea’s new lawyer, Jonathan MacArthur, said Monday he needs time to review the evidence, but that Honea plans to fight the 41 felony charges that could get him life in prison.

Trial had been scheduled to start next week in Clark County District Court.

The new date is Feb. 27.

Honea has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he began a relationship with the girl when he was an 18-year-old volunteer Explorer scout and counselor at the girl’s middle school.

Hey allegedly began having sex when the girl was under 14 and in sixth grade.

Honea remains jailed on $500,000 bail.
