NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - A 55-year-old woman has died in a house fire in New Rochelle.

The Journal News reports (https://lohud.us/29UeBKG ) that Loretta Wood was killed in the fire that broke out late Sunday in a house on Hamilton Avenue.

Officials say Wood was found dead in a second-floor bedroom. Her father and a nephew were in the house but escaped the blaze.

New Rochelle officials say the fire was the first fatal fire in the city since April of 2008.

Wood worked as a nursing assistant at a rehabilitation center in White Plains.

A spokesman for the facility says Wood was extremely popular there.
