LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A Lafayette man has pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in connection with the slayings of two men in that city.

Tippecanoe County Prosecutor Patrick Harrington says 34-year-old Matthew Oertel entered the pleas Thursday to those charges and one count of being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm. He faces a sentence of 45-60 years in prison when he’s sentenced Sept. 23.

Thirty-six-year-old Aaron Hunter Jr. and 46-year-old Terry Smith Jr., both of Lafayette, were fatally shot during a home invasion robbery last August.

Co-defendant in the case Jacob Guffey of Delphi pleaded guilty June 28 to two counts of felony murder and one count of auto theft. He faces a sentence of 55-67 years in prison when he’s sentenced Oct. 6.
