JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - An attorney for two Jackson strip clubs is trying to get them reopened.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Department closed Danny’s Downtown and Black Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club on Monday because of a dispute over a lawsuit payment.

James Scarff, an attorney for the clubs, tells WLBT-TV (https://bit.ly/2a6LK5u ) that his clients had already paid more than $180,000 to a man who claimed in a lawsuit that a bouncer assaulted him. The case was against Danny’s and its owners, including Daniel “Ax” Owens.

The alleged assault happened in 2011, and a judge ruled in favor of the plaintiff, Christopher Goodman, in 2013. Circuit Judge Winston Kidd filed an order to have the clubs closed after defendants didn’t pay the damages to Goodman for years.

Scarff says a payment was made July 7.
