SHELBURNE, Vt. (AP) - The Coast Guard was dispatched to rescue three people on Lake Champlain after their boat capsized during an unexpected storm.

Coast Guard officials tell WCAX-TV (https://bit.ly/29R4Vyg ) that life jackets likely saved the lives of the boaters Monday afternoon in Shelburne. After receiving a distress call as the first round of storms tore through Shelburne Bay, rescuers arrived on the scene to find the 12-foot sailboat capsized with no one on board.

A woman was pulled from the water soon after their arrival. She told Coast Guard members about the two other passengers who were then found a short while later.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Matt Harris says the weather turned quickly and caught the boaters off-guard.

Coast Guard officials remind boaters to continue monitoring weather patterns while at sea.
