DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - Officials in Devils Lake have approved a conditional use permit for a helicopter hangar and above-ground fuel tank at a local hospital.

WDAZ-TV (https://bit.ly/29TFxcg ) reports the approval came after CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake Hospital modified its original plan and chose to move the proposed hangar to a different site within the facility’s grounds that’s away from homes in the area.

The hospital’s initial proposal for a large helicopter hangar and an above-ground fuel tank was rejected last month over zoning restrictions.

Despite the changes, some area property owners are still against the project. Homeowner Kari Hunt says she doesn’t believe the hangar and fuel tank should be in a residential area.

The Devils Lake City Commission will vote on amending the zoning for the area in two weeks.
