BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a father and son have been struck and killed on the side of a Marlboro County road after pulling the son’s car out of a ditch.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins said the driver who hit the two men around 5 a.m. Tuesday on state Highway 9 east of Bennettsville won’t be charged.

Collins says the father left his truck on the highway facing the wrong way after getting his son’s car out of the ditch, and the car was swerving to avoid the parked truck and an oncoming car.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown told media outlets that 60-year-old Billy Lightsinger Jr., and his 24-year-old son Adam both died at the scene of the wreck.
