KENNETT, Mo. (AP) - Police in the southeast Missouri town of Kennett are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred after a fight at a home.

The Kennett Daily Dunklin Democrat (https://bit.ly/2ad6vxX ) reports that Shane McCormick suffered a gunshot wound Sunday afternoon and died later at a hospital. The suspect, Kenneth Bowles, is jailed on charges of second-degree domestic assault and felonious restraint. An investigation continues.

Authorities say Bowles had been involved in a disturbance with McCormick’s mother, who called her son. Authorities say McCormick arrived and confronted Bowles, leading to a fight and the shooting.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation because of a conflict of interest for Kennett police. Bowles’ son is a Kennett officer.
