LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An adviser to Gov. Asa Hutchinson is temporarily running Arkansas’ youth services division while the search is on for a permanent director.

The Department of Human Services on Tuesday announced that Betty Guhman will serve as the division’s interim director starting Wednesday. Marcus Devine, the division’s previous director, stepped down in April.

Guhman has served as a senior adviser to Hutchinson since 2014 with a focus on the Department of Human Services and child welfare. She began her career as a protective service worker for the DHS division of children and family services in 1973 and was named deputy commissioner of the division of youth services in 1977.

She has also worked as a chief of staff to Hutchinson in Congress and at the federal Department of Homeland Security.
