HAMPTON, Iowa (AP) - A judge has moved a Hampton man’s homicide trial to Mitchell County.

Court records say an order was entered Friday moving Ronald Rand’s trial. The records say the trial is set to begin Aug. 22.

Last week a judge granted Rand’s request to move the trial out of Franklin County. His attorney had filed the motion, citing media coverage that could affect potential jurors in Franklin County.

Rand has pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say Rand shot 51-year-old Michelle Key at his home on Dec. 13.
