HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston-area registered nurse has been convicted of participating in an $8 million Medicare fraud scheme involving fraudulent claims for home-health surfaces.

A federal jury in Houston returned the verdict Tuesday against 53-year-old Ann Anyanwu (ah-YAHN’-woo), finding her guilty of three counts of scheming to defraud Medicare. She is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 8 and could receive up to 30 years in federal prison. Two other defendants in the case have entered guilty pleas and also await sentencing.

Trial evidence showed the woman and her co-defendants submitted fraudulent Medicare claims through Medpsych Home Health Care in Houston.
