BLADENSBURG, Md. (AP) - Officials say kayakers spotted the body of a Maryland man believed to have drowned in the Anacostia River while swimming.

Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson says kayakers found the body Monday near the fishing pier at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park.

Thomson identified the man as 33-year-old Alexis Steven Allen of District Heights. She says an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Thomson says Maryland-National Capital Park Police warned the man against swimming alone in the area on Saturday, saying there had been robberies in the area recently. She says they recognized his “distinctive” swimming trunks when his body was found Monday.

Thomson says his death appears to be a swimming accident.
