KENTON, Tenn. (AP) - The longtime mayor of Kenton, Tennessee, has died.

Local news outlets report that Virginia Davidson died Monday morning at the age of 77 at Regional Hospital in Jackson. She had been staying at the hospital for the past few weeks following complications from a surgery.

Davidson served as Kenton mayor from 1999 to 2006 and served again starting in 2010. She began working for the city in 1969.

Danny Jowers, the town’s vice mayor, will serve as interim mayor.
