LYNN, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man is being called a hero for running into a smoldering multifamily home in Lynn and carrying a neighbor who uses a wheelchair to safety.

The Daily Item reports (https://bit.ly/29VwXv1 ) that Rick Nelson was waiting for a friend at about 1 a.m. Saturday when a woman ran up to his car and told him that a disabled man was trapped inside a nearby home that was on fire.

Nelson says he ran into the building but didn’t encounter flames until he went to the back of the house. He found the man lying down inside and carried him out to his car.

District Fire Chief Stephen Archer says he doesn’t recommend people running into burning buildings, but Nelson’s heroics likely saved the man’s life.
