BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say a SWAT team responded after a motorist who led police on a high-speed chase ran into a neighborhood after crashing his car.

Officials say the chase that began Tuesday in Irwindale ended in neighboring Baldwin Park when the sedan smashed into a concrete wall along a busy thoroughfare.

Two passengers were caught but the driver managed to elude officers and run into a residential area, prompting a lockdown at two schools. A SWAT team and a K-9 unit are conducting a search.

Authorities didn’t say why the motorist was being chased by police.
