ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - An Arlington police dog has died of apparent heat stress after chasing an aggravated assault suspect.

A police statement says K9 Mojo died at an Arlington veterinary hospital Tuesday afternoon about three hours after showing signs of becoming overheated while pursuing a suspect in a June 12 shooting. The suspect was taken into custody about five hours after the pursuit began.

Mojo was a Dutch-born Belgian Malinois (MAL’-lihn-wah) that had been with the Arlington Police Department since June 2010. The department statement says Mojo was its first K9 death in the line of duty.
