DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - District 15 Republicans have chosen retired Towner County farmer Greg Westlind to replace the late Rep. Curtis Hofstad of Devils Lake in the Legislature.

Hofstad died of an apparent heart attack in mid-June, in the middle of his latest term. He had served in the state House since being first elected in 2006.

Westlind tells KZZY radio that he will take the oath of office just prior to the start of a special session of the Legislature that begins Aug. 2. Gov. Jack Dalrymple last week called the special three-day session to address state budget shortfalls.

Westlind says he’s honored to have been selected to replace Hofstad. His appointment runs through November. He says he will seek the party’s endorsement to get on the ballot this fall.
