DONALDSONVILLE, La. (AP) - The Coast Guard says the body of the captain of a freight vessel who fell into the Mississippi River in Louisiana has been recovered.

The Coast Guard, in a statement Tuesday, said Capt. Ambarish Parekh of LaPlace, Louisiana, was last seen Sunday morning wearing a blue shirt and long pants with a personal flotation device. The Coast Guard said the 69-year-old man was attempting to board the freight vessel African Raptor from a crew boat and fell off a ramp that was connecting the two vessels near Donaldsonville.

A good Samaritan recovered his body Tuesday. The Coast Guard suspended the search Monday after crews combed 223 square miles looking for him.
