SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Sioux Falls woman who has admitted to stabbing her husband during a dispute on New Year’s Eve has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Argus Leader (https://argusne.ws/29WNi2y ) reports that 24-year-old Mirna Bolbito was sentenced Tuesday, two months after she pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in a plea deal with prosecutors that called for a more serious charge to be dismissed.

Police say Bolbito’s 30-year-old husband suffered life-threatening injuries during the dispute over the TV.

Bolbito and her attorneys told the court during the sentencing hearing Tuesday that her husband repeatedly beat her for years. They said the attacks dated back to when they lived in Guatemala.

Bolbito says she did not mean to severely harm her husband and she acted in self-defense.
