FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) - Authorities say three people on board a small airplane that crashed near Farmington Canyon emerged from the wreckage with only minor injuries.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office says the aircraft crashed around 2 p.m. Friday.

A passer-by called 911 and described a small plane on fire.

Farmington firefighters responded and were able to extinguish the flames.

Sheriff’s deputies say a pilot and two passengers walked away from the scene.

They are expected to recover.

Authorities say initial reports indicate the pilot tried to land on Farmington Canyon Road when the airplane had a malfunction and loss of power.

The plane then slid off the road and caught fire.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Officials say Farmington Canyon is now open to the public again.
