LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve confiscated nearly 3,000 pounds of illegal fireworks from a South Florida warehouse just days before the Fourth of July.

Lauderhill Fire-Rescue Division Chief Jeff Levy told the Sun Sentinel (https://goo.gl/dZLYH8 ) that the city’s code enforcement department was tipped off about someone selling fireworks out of one of the warehouse bays. Firefighters responded Thursday and found “boxes and boxes” of fireworks.

Neighboring businesses were evacuated and authorities shut off the power after Levy says gasoline, oil and several cars were found near the fireworks.

Police detectives responded and questioned the owner of the business. It wasn’t immediately clear if criminal charges were filed.
