TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) - A 76-year-old man was found dead inside a burning car behind a Rhode Island home.

The Tiverton Fire Department received a report of a fire in the home’s backyard at about 1 p.m. Friday.

First responders discovered the car engulfed in flames. They attempted to pull the victim from the vehicle but were unsuccessful. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.

Fire Chief Robert Lloyd told WPRI-TV (https://bit.ly/29oJnJI) it does not appear the victim was working on the car or that the car had crashed before the flames erupted.

Officials have not said whether the victim lives on the property.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials say an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
