WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - A 13-year-old Rhode Island boy is facing charges after police say he fired a pistol-style BB gun across a roadway several times, including in the direction of a passing motorist.

The Westerly Sun reports (https://bit.ly/29flEuW) the boy was taken into custody Wednesday on charges including possession of a firearm by a minor. The boy hasn’t been identified because he’s a juvenile.

He was released to the custody of his father.

A witness told police the boy fired in the direction of a motorist near Route 1 in Westerly. The witness said the boy fired five more shots at a nearby apartment building before running away.

Officers found the boy nearby. Police say he admitted to firing the gun, but not at cars.

The case was transferred to the family court.
