CLE ELUM, Wash. (AP) - Fire crews are fighting two brush fires in Kittitas County in central Washington.

A spokesman with the Central Washington Interagency Communications Center, Jim Duck, says one blaze is burning about 5 miles east of Cle Elum. He says residents of about several homes were told to leave the area immediately.

He said Saturday afternoon that no injuries have been reported and no structures have burned.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the fire was reported 1 p.m. Saturday and had burned an estimated 40 acres.

A stretch of Highway 10 between Cle Elum and Ellensburg has been closed. The fire also threatens a nearby chimpanzee sanctuary.

Duck says about 100 personnel are working on that fire. Crews in helicopters are dropping water onto the fire and around threatened homes.

Crews are also fighting on a smaller blaze that has burned 4 acres in South Cle Elum.
