CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man has been arrested on charges he sexually assaulted a 10-year-old child.

Police on Friday arrested Robert Barboza, of Cranston, on a charge of first-degree child molestation.

Cranston police say they launched an investigation after receiving a report that the 46-year-old Barboza had sexually assaulted the child, who was known to him. Police say the victim disclosed the abuse to the state Department of Children, Youth and Families and to detectives.

Barboza is being held by authorities pending his arraignment.

It couldn’t immediately be determined whether Barboza has a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.
