ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The secretary of Maryland’s Department of General Services has resigned to take a job in the private sector.

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan announced the resignation of Gail Bassette on Friday. Nelson Reichart will take over as acting secretary of the department. He had been deputy secretary under Bassette.

Hogan says he thanks Bassette for her 18 months of service. He says Reichart has the right experience to fill the role and that the department will “continue serving the people of Maryland at the highest levels.”

State officials will conduct a search for a permanent secretary.
