SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Advance tickets are now on sale for this year’s New York State Fair.

The event runs from Aug. 25 to Sept. 5. It will benefit from $50 million in ongoing renovations and upgrades at the 375-acre fairgrounds in Syracuse.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the improvements have “transformed” a site that hasn’t seen so many improvements in more than a century.

The upgrades are designed to allow for more rides, better facilities and more seating.

Advance tickets are $6 and may be purchased online or at many grocery stores around the state.

Aside from the annual State Fair, the fairgrounds play host to other events throughout the year. They include horse shows, car shows and, in October, an event billed as the Empire Alpaca Extravaganza.
