NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Police have removed 41 dogs living in deplorable conditions at a Nashville-area shelter and arrested its owner.

Metro Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Rebecca Morris says a warrant was executed Tuesday at Happy Endings Animal Rescue in Madison.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had sought the dogs’ removal. ASPCA workers were removing and transporting the dogs to a temporary shelter.

Media outlets report the shelter’s owner, 61-year-old David Joseph Gosselin, was charged with animal cruelty. He was released from jail on $10,000 bond later Tuesday.
