NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities have made an arrest in a weekend crash that left a 40-year-old woman dead and seriously injured her 9-year-old daughter in Queens.

The NYPD said Tuesday 58-year-old Jairam Budhu has been arrested and is facing charges including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Authorities say the crash happened in South Ozone Park just after 5 p.m. Sunday when the driver of a BMW sport utility vehicle ignored a stop sign and struck a Toyota Corolla. Police say Budhu fled the scene.

Police say the woman and child were rear passengers in the Toyota and were ejected. Investigators say Zaalika Rasool was pronounced dead and the girl was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

It’s unclear if Budhu has an attorney.
