ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) - A northeast Florida man has avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty to killing his fiancee and another man in separate shootings earlier this year.

The Florida Times-Union (https://goo.gl/ZEcJP0) reported Tuesday that 37-year-old Johnny Lawrence Williams Jr. has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and multiple other charges.

Authorities say Williams fatally shot his fiancee, 24-year-old Jamie Antoinette Wilson, in front of a St. Augustine home in April. He then went to his mother’s home, about a mile away, and got into an argument with people outside. Authorities say he shot 18-year-old Keiwuan Je’vante Murray and 28-year-old Brittany Tobler. Murray died from his wounds.

Williams fled to Jacksonville, where he was arrested 10 days later.
