TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A Milton man accused of leaving his toddler daughter in a freezing car overnight after driving her home while intoxicated has been sentenced to one year in a treatment program.

A Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman says 29-year-old Michael Dufour was also ordered Tuesday to serve one day in jail before beginning the alternative outpatient program. Dufour pleaded guilty to abandonment of a dependent person and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.

Court documents say police responded to Dufour’s home in January to a report of an abandoned child to find him holding the 15-month-old girl in his driveway.

Police say she was naked, red and lethargic. Hospital staff said she had frostbitten hands and feet and was hypothermic.

Dufour has undergone drug treatment and completed a parenting program since the incident.
