HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - A case involving a Huntington woman charged in the death of her 3-year-old son will be presented to a grand jury.

The Herald-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/29TWy9m ) 22-year-old Mariya Ajena Jones’ case was sent to the grand jury Tuesday after a magistrate found probable cause that her son died of septic shock as a result of abuse.

Jones and her husband, 31-year-old Brendon Miles, were arrested last week on charges of child neglect resulting in death after Jones’ son was found lifeless with multiple visible injuries at their home.

Huntington Police Detective Chris Sperry testified the state medical examiner said the child was tortured causing holes in his intestines before his death.

Jones’ attorney Gina Stanley says prosecutors prematurely charged the couple before other causes of death could be ruled out.
