PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) - The site of the old St. Anthony Hospital has been chosen as the preferred location for a new Pendleton fire station.

The City Council was deciding between the hospital and the closed Pendleton Cinema. St. Anthony has more room for training and parking while the cinema would be a little cheaper to develop and generate quicker response times.

Besides the space issue, the East Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/dHSDCN ) that councilors leaned toward the St. Anthony site because it wouldn’t take commercial real estate off the market.

The estimated cost of acquiring and developing the St. Anthony property is $2 million while the estimate for the old Pendleton cinema ranged from between $1.75 million and $1.95 million.

Those estimates don’t include the cost of construction.
