HULL, Mass. (AP) - A Hull man who called police to report a break-in at his home was himself arrested after officers discovered what they called an explosive device in the house.

Kevin Butler is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Hingham District Court on charges of possession of an explosive device, possession of anabolic steroids and disturbing the peace.

Chief Robert Sawtelle says officers went to the 26-year-old Butler’s home Tuesday after he called to report that a safe containing cash had been stolen from his home and that his vehicle was missing.

During the investigation, police found what they described as an approximately five-inch cylinder packed with what appears to be explosive powder.

The state bomb squad neutralized the device. Police did not say why Butler had it.
