SALEM, Mass. (AP) - An ex-convict charged with severely beating a Salem woman, stabbing her in the eye, breaking her jaw, and loosening several teeth has been held without bail.

Peter Turco pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday to charges including aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the attack Friday.

Prosecutors say the 39-year-old Turco knocked on the woman’s door. Turco was friends with and had served jail time with the woman’s ex-boyfriend. Authorities say both men were members the Crazy White Boyz jailhouse gang.

Prosecutors say the woman was stabbed in the eye, likely causing permanent vision loss, slammed into the kitchen cabinets, thrown head-first to the floor, breaking her jaw and knocking loose or breaking multiple teeth.

Turco’s attorney says there are “identification issues” with the case.
