WANAQUE, N.J. (AP) - A man who police say was armed with a knife when he was shot and wounded by police in northern New Jersey last week is facing charges stemming from the incident.

Authorities said Tuesday that 28-year-old Richard Liccardo has been charged with aggravated assault, weapons offenses and related offenses.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes says the Ringwood man assaulted Wanaque police officer John Galinus, who shot him, after police responded to a domestic dispute. Liccardo was taken to a hospital and is continuing to be treated for his injuries.

It’s unclear if Liccardo has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
