SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The Sioux Falls Canaries have fired manager Chris Paterson.

The franchise in the independent American Association announced the move Tuesday. Canaries President and CEO Tom Garrity said the team needs “a fresh voice.”

The team named former Canaries infielder Shelby Ford as interim manager for the rest of the season.

Paterson was in his second season as manager. The team was 56-98 during his tenure and had lost nine straight games leading up to his firing. The Canaries beat the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks 5-4 on Tuesday night to end the losing streak.
