LOS ANGELES (AP) - A heat wave is descending on Southern California, with temperatures in some areas expected to reach triple digits by the end of the week.

The National Weather Service says a high pressure system moving in will bring temperatures Wednesday in the high 80s and well into the 90s across greater Los Angeles. By Saturday, temperatures could be four or five degrees higher.

Forecasters say the dry heat could bring increased risk of wildfires and health concerns for older people.

While it will be very hot, no heat records are expected to be broken.

A cooling trend is predicted to start Sunday.
