WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A lawsuit has been filed against state officials and a Delaware motel where a 4-year-old girl was beaten to death by her mother.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports (https://delonline.us/2a8Hhj3) Tiffany Greenfield is suing various Division of Family Services state workers and New Castle’s Budget Motor Lodge where Autumn Milligan was found dead in 2014.

Greenfield is the guardian of Autumn’s 7-year-old half-brother Ethan Ford, and the sister of the children’s mother, Tanasia Milligan, who’s serving 20 years in prison for Autumn’s death.

The lawsuit says the state failed to protect the two siblings, leaving them to suffer in “unspeakable horror” up until Autumn’s death, even though Tanasia Milligan was the target of several neglect investigations.

A representative for the state declined to comment to the newspaper. A motel manager wasn’t available for comment.
