HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - A Hot Springs resident has filed a petition to stop the demolition of the condemned Majestic Hotel complex downtown.

Brenda Brandenburg filed the request for an injunction Tuesday against the city, Mayor Ruth Carney, the Hot Springs Board of Directors and the Historic District Commission. The city is demolishing the property after a fire destroyed the landmark hotel in 2014.

Large-scale demolition has not yet begun as crews work on removing asbestos and hazardous materials from the property first.

Brandenburg says she would like to save the complex’s “red brick” building, which was built in 1926 and included in the Central Avenue Historic District.

According to The Sentinel-Record (https://bit.ly/2a0cTqu ), city officials have said that the buildings are a liability and not structurally sound.
