NEW YORK (AP) - New York authorities say about nine people were hurt when a double-decker tour bus swerved and jumped a curb at Central Park on Fifth Avenue.

Police and Fire Department officials say none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

Police say a taxi cut off the bus around 1:15 p.m. Thursday on Fifth Avenue between 62nd and 63rd streets. The open-top bus swerved onto the sidewalk and hit a tree.

Bus operator Go New York Tours said in a statement late Thursday it deeply regrets the distress caused by the incident.

A couple of blocks away, on July 3, a teenager stepped on an explosive device in Central Park and lost part of his leg.

Investigators don’t believe the device was meant to hurt anyone.
