GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - The Border Patrol says agents rescued 15 migrants who were trapped in an open-pit mine in southern Arizona.

Agents were tracking a group of migrants at the mine property in Green Valley when they entered the mine. Agents followed them in and found the soil on the pit’s edge was too loose to get out safely.

A special unit known as Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue was deployed and extricated the migrants using ropes.

The Border Patrol says the migrants were in the country illegally and were all men from Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.
